Nigeria midfielder, Moses Simon has empathized the importance of Super Eagles to start their 2025 African Cup of Nations, AFCON qualifiers on a winning note.

The three times AFCON winners will play host to their West African neighbors, Benin Republic at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo on Saturday.

Earlier in June, Nigeria had lost 2-1 to Gernot Rohr’s side when both sides met in a 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier and Simon insists it is important for the Super Eagles to avenge the defeat this time around.

“Of course all Nigerians are expecting a win, so we will just go there, do our best,” Simon who has since arrived Super Eagles’ camp was quoted by SCORENigeria.

“The best Nigeria needs is to find a win, this is the most important thing.”

The West African side will next take on Amavubi of Rwanda on Tuesday in continuation of the AFCON qualifying series.
