Napoli defender Nosa Edward Obaretin linked with Lorient move

Italian-Nigerian defender Nosa Edward Obaretin, currently with Napoli, has been linked with a move to French club FC Lorient.

The 23-year-old centre-back is back at Napoli after spending the 2025-26 season on loan at Empoli. That spell ended on 30 June, with Obaretin returning to the Serie A club, where his contract runs until 30 June 2027.

Obaretin joined Napoli’s senior squad in July 2023 after progressing through the club’s Under-19 side. He has since spent time on loan at Trento, Bari and Empoli as he continued his development in Italian football.

The defender has made 54 Serie B appearances during his career, providing two assists, while also recording 33 appearances and two goals in Serie C. He has also featured in Italy’s domestic cup competitions and the UEFA Youth League.

Obaretin is listed at a market value of €1.5m. His possible move to Lorient would represent a switch from Serie A to Ligue 1, but the rumour remains unconfirmed.
