Nigeria Without Demehin, Echegini for Decisive WAFCON 2026 Clash Against Egypt

Nigeria will be without Tosin Demehin and Jennifer Echegini for their final group-stage match against Egypt at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), with both players suspended for the crucial encounter.

The Super Falcons head into the decisive fixture knowing that victory will secure their place in the knockout stage and keep their hopes of qualifying for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup alive.

Nigeria’s campaign has been anything but straightforward. The 10-time African champions suffered a surprise 3-2 defeat to Malawi in their opening Group B match, leaving their qualification hopes hanging in the balance.

They responded with a determined 1-0 victory over Zambia despite playing much of the contest with 10 players after defender Tosin Demehin was sent off in the first half. The hard-fought win revived the Falcons’ chances of progressing to the quarter-finals.

However, head coach Justin Madugu will now have to cope without two key players against Egypt. Demehin serves a suspension following her red card against Zambia, while midfielder Jennifer Echegini is also unavailable after accumulating bookings.

Despite the setback, the Super Falcons remain in control of their destiny. A win over Egypt will guarantee Nigeria a place in the knockout rounds and keep the team’s dream of reaching the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup firmly on course.
