Nigerian Footballers Shine Across European Leagues: Ogu, Nwakaeme Secure Third Israeli Title; Omeruo, Ezekiel In Action; Balogun, Etebo, Ebuehi Out

In a weekend filled with footballing action, Nigerian footballers displayed prowess and resilience across various European leagues. The standout performances include Hapoel Beer-Sheva securing their third consecutive Israeli top-flight title despite a narrow defeat, and the notable contributions of players like Kenneth Omeruo and Emem Eduok in Turkey.

Super Eagles defender Kenneth Omeruo marked his 28th appearance for Kasimpasa in a Turkish Super Lig fixture, contributing to a convincing 3-1 victory over Genclerbirligi. Omeruo, poised to be a key player in Nigeria’s preliminary squad for the 2018 FIFA World Cup, displayed defensive prowess and received a yellow card in the 90th minute.

In Israel, John Ogu and Anthony Nwakaeme played pivotal roles for Hapoel Beer-Sheva, clinching their third consecutive league title despite a 1-0 loss to Maccabi Tel Aviv in the Championship playoffs. Maccabi Tel Aviv’s Dor Peretz scored the solitary goal in the 44th minute.

Across other European leagues, Imoh Ezekiel featured in Las Palmas’ 1-0 loss to Eibar in the Spanish LaLiga, while Oghenekaro Etebo, who has been recovering from fitness issues, was not listed for the game.

In Germany, Anthony Ujah served as an unused substitute for Mainz 05 in their 2-1 defeat to Werder Bremen, and Super Eagles defender Leon Balogun missed his fourth consecutive Bundesliga game despite returning to full training.

The Netherlands saw Tyronne Ebuehi absent from ADO Den Haag’s side in their 2-1 loss to Vitesse, marking the fifth consecutive game without his participation.

Afeez Aremu, the Home Eagles midfielder, made his ninth Norwegian league start for IK Start in a 1-0 loss to Brann. IK Start remains winless in their last eight league games, with their last victory dating back to March 11.

In Hungary, Ezekiel Henty played a significant role for Puskas Academy, coming on at halftime to replace John Knezevic in their 1-0 win over Ujpest. Obinna Nwobodo showcased a commendable performance, completing the entire duration of the game. Henty, on a six-month loan deal, has featured in 16 games for Puskas Academy.
