By Wale Mustapha
In a bid to avoid relegation from the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), Akwa United have bolstered their squad with five new players ahead of the second half of the season.
The Promise Keepers, currently sitting 19th on the league table, have secured the services of three players from PSports Academy: forward Uche Sabastine, midfielder Ogar Sabastine, and Samuel Tochukwu.
They also signed midfielder Orji Chisom from Sporting Lagos and defender Adamu Umar, who joins from Sunshine Stars.
Additionally, the 2021 NPFL champions have recalled right-back Asuquo Etiene, who was previously on loan at local rivals Dakkada FC.
With these new additions, Coach Kennedy Boboye’s side will be hoping to turn their fortunes around and avoid relegation in the second half of the campaign.
Akwa United will face league leaders Remo Stars in a crucial Matchday 20 encounter at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium on Sunday.
