NWFL: Wemimo Mathew resigns as Remo Stars coach

Wemimo Matthew has officially stepped down as head coach of Remo Stars Ladies ahead of her expected unveiling as the new head coach of Bayelsa Queens.

The experienced tactician submitted her resignation letter to Remo Stars CEO, Adedoyin Ogungbefun, on July 31, 2026, with her resignation taking effect from August 5, 2026.

The letter was made available to www.savidnews.com.

In the letter, Matthew expressed gratitude to the club’s management for the opportunity to serve, describing her time with Remo Stars Ladies as both valuable and enriching.

“I write with a deep sense of gratitude and humility to formally tender my resignation from my position as the Head Coach of Remo Stars Ladies FC, effective from 5th August 2026,” she wrote.

She acknowledged the support, trust, and guidance she received during her tenure, noting that they played a vital role in her personal and professional growth.

“This decision was not an easy one for me to make, as my time here has been a valuable and enriching experience. I am sincerely thankful for the opportunity to serve under your leadership and to contribute to the growth and success of the organization.”

Matthew also appreciated the relationships she built at the club and assured the management of her commitment to ensuring a smooth transition before her departure.

“I kindly ask for your understanding regarding my decision, and I am committed to ensuring a smooth transition of my responsibilities.”

She concluded the letter by thanking the club once again for the opportunity to be part of the Remo Stars family.

Matthew’s resignation clears the way for her anticipated appointment as Bayelsa Queens head coach ahead of the new Nigeria Women Football League season.

She was in charge of the Sky Blue Stars Ladies for their first three seasons in the NWFL Premiership.

The team’s best showing was qualification for the Super Six during the 2024/25 season.

She previously served as head coach of Sunshine Queens and Edo Queens as well as serving as Assistant coach of Nigeria’s senior women’s national team. 

The CAF A License gaffer is joinning a team rich in success after winning the league title multiples times as well as the President Federations Cup as she hope to win her first major title with the Prosperity Girls.
