NWSL Playoffs: Asisat Oshoala scores in Bay FC’s loss to Washington Spirit
By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde
Asisat Oshoala opened scoring for Bay FC during her side’s 2-1 loss to Washington Spirit in the NWSL Playoffs quarter-final as they bowed out of title contention on Sunday.
The former FC Barcelona star was set up by Penelope Hocking for the first goal of the encounter in the 82nd minute at the Audi Field.
The goal seemed to set Bay FC toward the semi-finals before Tara McKeown restored the parity four minutes later to take the game into extra time.
Caprice Dydasco’s unfortunate own goal won the match for Washington Spirit in the 96th minute.
Oshoala played the duration of the match as she increased her goal tally to eight with an assist after 26 games.
It has been an exciting season for Oshoala and the NWSL expansion side, Bay FC, after qualifying for the season-ending Playoffs.
They will focus on returning to the Playoffs next season while Washington Spirit faces either Gotham FC or Portland Thorns in the semi-final.
