President Federation Cup final: Tunde Sanni aims for historic title with Kwara United

By Wale Mustapha

Kwara United head coach, Tunde Sanni, says he is determined to lead the club to its first-ever major title as they prepare for the President Federation Cup final against Abakaliki FC.

The match, set to take place at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Lagos, will mark a historic occasion for both the Harmony Boys and their coach, who is aiming to lift the prestigious trophy for the first time in his career — either as a player or a coach.

“As a player, I only featured in the cup semi-final once — in 1989 — with International Breweries Limited (IBL FC), Ilesa,” Sanni told Complete Sports.

“We lost to Iwuanyanwu Nationale (now Heartland FC). As a coach, this is the first time I will be featuring in the final, and I believe it’s a date with destiny.”

Kwara United booked their place in the final after defeating Enugu Rangers 1-0 in a tense semi-final at the MJA, while Abakaliki FC progressed by edging Ikorodu City FC 5-4 on penalties in the other semifinal.

Sanni expressed hope that his side’s efforts would be rewarded with silverware.

“Hopefully, I pray to God to crown our efforts with the President Federation Cup trophy — for the government and the good people of Kwara State,” he added.

Victory on the day would secure Kwara United not just a historic cup triumph, but also qualification for continental football next season.
