NFF commends Gov Dapo Abiodun’s N30 million support to Super Falcons, Cameroon

By Oluwadamilola Olaleye

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has expressed appreciation to Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, for his generous financial gesture following the Super Falcons’ 2–0 victory over Cameroon in an international friendly on Tuesday at the M.K.O. Abiola Stadium in Abuja.

Governor Abiodun rewarded the Nigerian women’s national team with ₦20 million and gifted Cameroon’s Indomitable Lionesses ₦10 million after the tightly contested match.

The encounter saw Super Falcons captain Rasheedat Ajibade net a first-half brace, including a 28th-minute penalty and a 43rd-minute finish from open play.

In a statement issued by the federation, NFF General Secretary, Dr. Mohammed Sanusi, lauded the governor’s goodwill, describing it as “an act of kindness and magnanimity that will never be forgotten.”

“The financial incentive has been well-received by the team and I believe this is an added psychological boost apart from the victory over the Cameroonians in the match,” Sanusi said.

“The NFF will do everything it can to ensure the players and their officials have their pre-WAFCON final camping programme in a very conducive environment.”

The Super Falcons are currently preparing for the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), scheduled to take place in Morocco from July 5 to 26.

Nigeria, drawn in Group B, will face Tunisia, Botswana, and Algeria in the group stage.
