Jean Baptiste Bisseck: Cameroon coach shifts focus on 2027 World Cup qualification after loss to Super Falcons

The head coach of Cameroon’s senior women’s national team, Jean Baptiste Bisseck, is hoping his side qualify for the next FIFA Women’s World Cup in 2027.
The Indomitable Lionesses are preparing for the 2026 Women’s African Cup of Nations (WAFCON) Qualifiers later this year with their latest friendly match against Nigeria.
After failing to qualify for the 2024 WAFCON, Bisseck is now focussing on qualifying for the 2026 WAFCON which will give the Central Africa powerhouse the chance to qualify for the upcoming FIFA Women’s World Cup.
With FIFA expanding the Women’s World Cup to 48 teams, Coach Bisseck sees hope for greater African representation and a chance for teams like Cameroon to shine.
“It’s a good thing that FIFA is trying to give more opportunities to African nations,” he said.
“When you saw Cameroon playing this afternoon, it was a good game. We have good teams like Nigeria, Morocco, and the rest trying to do their best. Women’s football is growing, and Cameroon will try our best to qualify.”
After a 2-0 loss against the Super Falcons this week, Bisseck admitted tactical mistakes cost his side during the match.
“We were prepared to press them, and we tried. But two goals came from our mistakes. Don’t forget Nigeria is a strong team preparing for WAFCON, while we are looking ahead to the 2026 qualifiers with a new squad.”
Despite the defeat, Bisseck maintained a long-term perspective, emphasizing that Cameroon’s focus remains on team development and future competitions.
Though the result wasn’t in their favor, Cameroon remains focused on building a competitive squad for the future.
A competitive squad can also propel the team to WAFCON 2026 in Morocco and the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil.
