Ralf Rangnick ready to take up Austria reins – What it means for Man United

Word stemming from the European media on Thursday evening points towards an altogether telling development in the future of Manchester United interim boss Ralf Rangnick.

German tactician Rangnick, of course, was installed on the bench at Old Trafford on a temporary basis late last year, on the back of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s dismissal.

The former RB Leipzig chief has since gone on to endure an altogether underwhelming debut stint in England, with United now looking all but certain to miss out on Champions League football for next season.

This comes with Rangnick having long agreed to take up a position in the boardroom in Manchester, though, with Ajax boss Erik ten Hag secured as the club’s next permanent head coach.

In turn, it will no doubt come as a shock to all associated with Man United to hear that Rangnick is now on the verge of taking up a fresh position in management.

As per a number of reliable sources, in something of a bolt from the blue, the experienced headmaster is in advanced negotiations to take up the reins of the Austrian national team.

In fact, an official announcement on the matter could be forthcoming as early as tomorrow.

Dual role?

So, what would Rangnick moving on mean for his position at Old Trafford?

Excitement had long been expressed when it comes to the potential impact of ‘The Godfather of Gegenpressing’ on matters behind the scenes at United, with Rangnick, despite his recent woes on the touchline, widely regarded as something of a football mastermind.

Ensuing reports quickly spreading across the media, though, insist that those of a Red Devils persuasion need not fret.

This comes amid the assurance that Rangnick will have time aplenty to simultaneously carry out both his job as Austria’s new boss, and a consultant to the board in Manchester:
