Riyad Mahrez inspires Al Shamal with two assists against Al Hilal

Riyad Mahrez produced two assists as Al Shamal faced Al Hilal in the AFC Champions League Elite, recalling his influential performances against the Saudi club during his time with Al Ahli.

Al Hilal visited Al Shamal at Al Bayt Stadium in Al Khor on Tuesday in the third round of the competition’s league phase.

Mahrez created Al Shamal’s second goal three minutes after half-time. The Algeria winger delivered a low cross into the area, where his compatriot Baghdad Bounedjah converted past Al Hilal goalkeeper Mohammed Al Owais in the 48th minute.

The former Manchester City player was involved again six minutes later. His free-kick cross found Tunisia midfielder Mohamed Ali Ben Romdhane, who headed the ball into the Al Hilal net in the 54th minute.

It was the second time Mahrez had provided two assists in a match against Al Hilal. He previously achieved the feat with Al Ahli in September last year, when the two sides drew 3-3 in the third round of the Saudi Pro League.

Mahrez has now created six goals against Al Hilal in 10 meetings across all competitions since joining Al Ahli in the summer of 2023.
