Shakira, Burna Boy Set World Cup Record as ‘Dai Dai’ Surpasses 100 Million Views

Colombian music icon Shakira and Nigerian Grammy-winning star Burna Boy have made FIFA World Cup history after their official 2026 tournament anthem, Dai Dai, surpassed 100 million views within weeks of its release.

The song, unveiled ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, has quickly become a global sensation, generating massive engagement across digital platforms as anticipation builds for the tournament being co-hosted by United States, Mexico and Canada.

The milestone further strengthens Shakira’s status as the most successful artist associated with the FIFA World Cup. The 49-year-old has now contributed to four different editions of football’s biggest tournament, a feat unmatched in World Cup music history.

Her World Cup journey began with a performance of a remix of her global hit Hips Don’t Lie at the 2006 World Cup final in Germany. She later delivered the iconic Waka Waka (This Time for Africa) for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa before returning with La La La (Brazil 2014) for the tournament in Brazil.

Both songs remain among the most successful football anthems ever produced. Waka Waka has accumulated more than 4.5 billion views worldwide, while La La La has exceeded 1.3 billion views, cementing Shakira’s enduring connection with the global football audience.

The addition of Burna Boy to Dai Dai has brought a strong African influence to the 2026 World Cup soundtrack, helping the anthem resonate with fans across multiple continents. The collaboration has received widespread acclaim and is expected to gain even greater momentum as the tournament gets underway.

Speaking about the project, Shakira described her relationship with football as inseparable, calling the FIFA World Cup a unique platform that unites people beyond borders, cultures and politics. She also noted that Dai Dai carries an inspirational message aimed at encouraging young people to pursue their dreams regardless of the obstacles they face.

The song’s success comes ahead of another major moment for the Colombian superstar, who is set to headline the 2026 FIFA World Cup final halftime show on July 19 alongside Madonna and BTS, promising a spectacular finale to the tournament.
