Sporting Lagos pip Remo Stars to maiden Naija Super 8 title

Newly promoted Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) side, Sporting Lagos emerged as the winners of the maiden Naija Super 8 after a 4-2 win on penalties over Remo Stars in the final at Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan, Lagos, on Sunday.
After a goalless first half, it was the Lagos-based side that broke the deadlock in the 52nd minute when Emeka whipped in a dangerous free kick and Aliu was on hand to turn it in.
 
In the additional minutes of the second half, Daniel Ogunmoded’s side equalized when Adams Olamilekan scored off an assist from Sikiru Alimi.
The match went straight into penalties after a 1-1 draw in regulation time.
Sporting Lagos secured a 4-2 win on penalties with goalkeeper, Christian Nwoke saving two spot kicks during the shoot-outs.
The team won all five games including victories twice against Remo Stars with victories over Katsina United and Akwa United.
Remo Stars will now focus on its preparations for the CAF Champions League. The Lagos-based side will continue build up for its maiden appearance in the Nigerian topflight since its launch in 2022.
