Super Falcons Bag $60,000 Bonus Boost Ahead of Crucial WAFCON Quarter-Final
Nigeria’s senior women’s national team have been rewarded with a substantial $60,000 cash bonus following their emphatic 6-2 victory over the Cleopatras of Egypt at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
Before their tournament opener against Malawi, the National Sports Commission (NSC) pledged a $5,000 incentive for every goal scored by Justine Madugu’s side.
However, addressing the team after their dominant display against Egypt, Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) President Shehu Gusau revealed that the NSC doubled the payout to $10,000 per goal.
The 10-time African champions scored nine goals in the group stage against Malawi, Zambia, and Egypt combined. They converted two during 3-2 loss to Malawi before recording one in 1-0 victory against Zambia and wrapped up their group campaign with an emphatic 6-2 thrashing of Egypt.
The upgraded incentive aims to motivate the team ahead of their high-stakes quarter-final clash against the Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon in Casablanca on Sunday.
The upcoming fixture carries immense weight, as victory will not only secure Nigeria a place in the WAFCON semi-finals but also guarantee an automatic spot at the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil.
Both sides met in the deciding encounter for 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup qualification at WAFCON 2022 with Rasheedat Ajibade’s goal separating both sides and sealing Nigeria’s place at Australia/ New Zealand.
