Nigeria International, Taiwo Awoniyi has shared his journey to finding true love despite his low financial status.
The Nottingham Forest star has been married to his high school crush, Jesudun, since 2018, and the couple are blessed with a son.
Reflecting on his past while speaking in an interview with Oma Akatugba as shared on X, the former Liverpool signee opened up on how he met his wife and how long they were together tying the knot.
“When we were in secondary school, I’m not the type that asks girls out because there is this poverty in you that will not even give you the boldness to say hi to a lady.
“So that was the situation I found myself and there’s this girl in the class that time that every time she brings food, I just find myself taking her food.
“I would take it with arrogance like if you will go and report me, go and report, you will go and buy puff, puff or something, I would snatch it and go my way.
“I think it was when, after I came back from the tournament I went to in London because then we left school already. That was actually when I did (confessed my feelings).
“Then you know what shocked me, she told me on the chat that and so, who cares, then I was like, do you know where they call it? she was like, who cares? I heard you went to London.
“But it was after our secondary school days, we met again, and then we started talking again. And then I was like, you remember when I was in school, all those things I was doing, it is just that I don’t have the boldness.
“And so we started the friendship again and I already know in my mind that she’s going to be my wife.”
