Tottenham and Arsenal ‘not in frame’ for Raheem Sterling ahead of summer move

Neither Arsenal nor Tottenham are expected to be in the frame to sign Manchester City winger Raheem Sterling, should he decide to leave the Etihad this summer, it has been reported.

Sterling, who has been in and out of the Manchester City XI this season, is out of contract next summer and yet to sign an extension with Pep Guardiola’s side to keep him at the club beyond then.

However, should he depart, Sterling will not be considering either north London club as his next destination, The Athletic’s reliable David Ornstein reports.

‘Despite having worked with Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta when the Spaniard was an assistant to Pep Guardiola at City, Sterling has expressed no desire to follow him to the north London side’, the report claims.

And it is the same story at Tottenham, where ‘suggestions that Spurs may be frontrunners because Sterling wants to play for Antonio Conte are denied by sources and it is said his view of the Italian does not surpass total professional respect’.

Where could Sterling go?

Should the Englishman leave the Etihad, The Athletic report that ‘his long-held expectation is to join one of a small number of Europe’s most decorated teams’.

But it is unclear where that would be. Real Madrid are seemingly focused on signing Kylian Mbappe, while Barcelona would be unable to provide the sort of fee that City would surely demand.

That leaves Juventus, who are also tight for funds, and Bayern Munich. Of these, the Bavarian club could be the most likely, especially if they lose Serge Gnabry on a free or fail to agree a contract extension with the German in good time.
