Following their hard-fought 1-0 victory over South Korea in their opening match at the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup in Colombia, the Nigeria U20 team, the Falconets, now face a tough challenge against tournament favorites Germany.

The Falconets secured their win against the Korean Republic on Monday at the Estadio Metropolitano de Techo in Bogota, Colombia, with a stunning late goal from Flourish Sabastine.

Germany, on the other hand, delivered an impressive performance in their opener, defeating Venezuela 5-2. Historically, the Germans have been dominant in the group stage, losing only two of their last 20 group matches, positioning them as strong contenders for this year’s title.

The Falconets, who have twice finished as runners-up (in 2010 and 2014), will be looking to overcome their previous final losses to Germany.

The crucial match will take place on Wednesday, September 4, 2024, at the 10,000-seat Estadio Metropolitano de Techo in Bogota, with kickoff scheduled for 11 PM Nigerian time. Fans can watch the game live on FIFA Plus.

This year’s tournament features 24 teams for the first time, with the top two teams from each group advancing to the round of 16, along with the best four third-placed teams.
