Atalanta’s victory against Sporting CP in the round of 16 marked a remarkable comeback, largely driven by the outstanding performance of Ademola Lookman.

The Italian club found themselves trailing 2-1, but Lookman’s brilliance altered the game’s trajectory when he scored the equalizer in the opening minute of the second half.

His stellar display not only ended his dry spell in the Europa League but also reignited Atalanta’s aspirations for further success in the tournament.

Following the match, Lookman shared the significance of his goal and expressed his joy for his teammate Gianluca Scamacca, who scored the winning goal.

“Did you hear the roar after my goal? The fans were amazing tonight, and scoring in front of the supporters was just great,” Lookman told UEFA.com.

“I’m very happy because equalizing early in the second half was crucial. That goal helped us to improve our performance.

“I’m also thrilled for Scamacca. You know, forwards always want to score!”

Lookman’s exceptional performance has placed the club in a favorable position to progress further in the tournament.

Atalanta is now set to face Liverpool in the quarter-finals of the UEFA Europa League, with Benfica or Marseille as potential opponents in the semi-finals.

The quarter-final matches will commence on April 11, with the second legs scheduled for April 18. The semi-final dates are set for May 2 (first legs) and May 9 (second legs).
