Nigeria international Victor Boniface has expressed determination to build on his impressive debut season with Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen.

The 23-year-old enjoyed a stellar debut season in Germany, helping Bayer Leverkusen, under the tutelage of Xabi Alonso, to their first-ever Bundesliga title.

His incredible performance saw him win the coveted Bundesliga Rookie of the Season award after winning the most Rookie of the Month awards.

The Akure-born striker boasts a record of 20 goals and 10 assists across 32 appearances in all competitions last season.

Boniface joined Bayer Leverkusen from Belgian club Royale Union SG for €21.7 million at the start of last season, and he is determined to replicate the success of the previous campaign.

“The funniest thing is that we have not had a conversation about next season yet. We’re taking things step by step,” he said on the Counterattack podcast.

“Everyone will want to beat us because of what we achieved last season, and it’s not going to be easy.

“We enjoyed what happened, how we made history and were celebrated by the club. And every one that witnessed it wants to witness more.

“I’m ready to give 100 per cent to achieve what we achieved last year, and I’m sure it’s the same for the rest of the players.”
