Yira Sor in advanced talks over move from Genk to Turkish newcomers Amedspor

Super Eagles winger Yira Collins Sor is in advanced discussions over a transfer from KRC Genk to Turkish Super Lig new boys Amedspor, with negotiations between the clubs ongoing.

Amedspor are in talks with the Belgian Pro League side over a permanent deal for the Nigerian, although no final agreement has yet been reached, according to TransferFeed.

Sor, 26, has entered the final year of his contract at Genk and is not expected to receive an extension, increasing the likelihood that he will leave the club during the current summer window.

If the deal is concluded, the former Flying Eagles forward would join compatriot Gift Orban at the Diyarbakir-based club.

Orban link-up on the cards

Amedspor, who have been promoted to the Turkish Super Lig for the new season, secured the services of Gift Orban earlier this week.

The striker arrived on a season-long loan from Bundesliga side TSG Hoffenheim as the Turkish club step up their preparations for life in the top flight.

A move for Sor would see Amedspor add further pace and attacking depth on the flanks while also reuniting two Nigerian players in their frontline.

Sor’s situation at Genk

Sor moved to Genk from Czech First Division League club Slavia Prague in January 2023 in a transfer worth €6.5m.

He arrived in Belgium with a reputation as an exciting wide forward, but his time at Genk has been disrupted by a series of injury problems.

Those setbacks have restricted his appearances and limited his impact, preventing him from establishing himself as a regular and consistently showcasing the form that persuaded Genk to invest in him.

With just 12 months left on his deal and no fresh contract on the table, Genk are now weighing up a sale as talks with Amedspor continue.
