A record crowd of 13,535 attended the 2024 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup match between the Dominican Republic and Nigeria, marking the highest attendance for any Dominican Republic national team match.
Hosted in Santo Domingo, the thrilling contest saw Nigeria narrowly defeat the hosts 1-0, finishing atop Group A.
The Flamingos faced a challenging battle against a determined Dominican side, especially under driving rain, and struggled to convert their ball possession into goals until Shakirat Moshood unleashed a stunning strike from outside the box. This goal marked her fourth of the tournament.
The victory secured Bankole Olowookere’s team a spot in the quarter-finals, where they will face the United States on Saturday.
With a perfect record of three wins from three matches, Nigeria has scored nine goals while conceding just one, establishing themselves as one of the top teams in the competition.
Having won a bronze medal in 2022, the West African side is now poised to surpass that achievement in the Dominican Republic.
