AFCON 2023: Sporting Lagos goalkeeper in Jose Peseiro’s provisional list – Report

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) have received Jose Peseiro’s 50-man provisional AFCON squad list, according to mupltiple sources.
Sources claimed that Peseiro has included 23-year-old Sporting Lagos goalkeeper, Christian Nwoke, in his list following the concerns in the goalkeeping sector of the Nigerian national team.
Nwoke who has kept five clean sheets from twelve NPFL outings, could be the solution to the goalkeeping department which has suffered setbacks in recent matches.
The Portuguese tactician has always trusted Francis Uzoho as his number one in goal the Omonia S.C. goalkeeper keeps making costly errors including a vital one that kept the Super Eagles out of the FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
He recently conceded a long-range free kick against the Warriors in the 2026 World Cup qualifying match, that got people asking questions.
Meanwhile, before Nigeria’s 1-1 draw against Lesotho the head coach mentioned that if he found a better goalkeeper than Uzoho, he’ll play him.
Maduka Okoye, Doma United’s Bright Osayi, and Bender Insurance’s Amas Obasogie all missed out, but Enyimba’s Olorunleke Ojo was also called up.
“According to reports, two NPFL Goalkeepers have made the cut for the Super Eagles provisional list. Christian Nwoke and Ojo Olorunleke,” Walter Odigie (NPFL presenter) posted on X.
“Doma United in-form Goalie Kingdom Osayi and Amas Obasogie of Bendel Insurance both miss out.
