Paris 2024 Qualifiers: Nigeria’s Waldrum complains of short preparation window for Cameroon clash

By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde

Head coach of Nigeria’s senior women’s national team, Randy Waldrum has complained about the short period players are expected to prepare during international windows ahead of Cameroon showdown.

Friday will see the first leg third round of the Paris 2024 Olympics Qualifiers with the Indomitable Lionesses.

After the first leg, the team will return to Abuja, Nigeria’s political capital for the return leg three days later.

This did not go down well with the University of Pittsburgh coach who is expected to take charge of his match after guiding the team to the Round of 16 at the last World Cup.

“Anytime we have an international break, we don’t have much training time especially when you have two matches,” Waldrum told journalists before jetting out to Douala with the team for the first leg.

“I think we are as prepared as we can be. Our players are playing abroad. Coming after the World Cup, I think the players are in great spirit.

“We respect Cameroon and we know it will be a great match in both legs but I think we would be ready.”

Randy Waldrum has selected 21 players, who will all be on the trip to Douala, and then fly down to Abuja on Sunday morning for the return leg against the Lionesses, which will be held at the MKO Abiola National Stadium on Monday evening.
