NPFL MD 22 Wrap: Plateau compound Heartland woes as Sunshine subdue Lobi Stars

Plateau United thrashed Heartland FC 5-1 to compound the woes of the bottom-of-the-table side in Wednesday’s Matchday 22 fixture of the 2023/2024 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) in Aba.

Olawale Doyeni, Agbor Lawrence, Silas Nenrot, Makalala Victor, and Harrison Enable scored for the Northern side.

Onyekachi Okafor pulled a coach back for Heartland FC after Promise Anyawu had missed a penalty.

In Akure, Sunshine Stars beat league leaders, Lobi Stars 2-0 despite the visitors being reduced to ten players after John Lazarus’s red card.

Vincent Temitope and Chidozie Iwundu scored for the Akure Gunners.

Two goals from Ekeson Okorie in either half lifted Bayelsa United to a 2-0 victory over Doma United in Yenegoa.

Enugu Rangers pushed themselves into the title zone with a 1-0 win over Remo Stars thanks to Agu Kenechukwu’s 56th-minute goal.

Katsina United edged Kano Pillars in five-goal thriller with goals from Emanuel Jonas, Falolu Azeez, and Mazifi Yahya.

Ibrahim Mustapha and Umar Mustapha scored for the Sao Madu Gida.

In Lagos, Sporting Lagos had to come from a goal down to earn a 2-1 win against Akwa United.

Sani Suleiman had given the visitors the lead in the 51st minute before two late goals from Tochukwu Udeh changed the tide of the match in favour of the host.

Overall, Lobi Stars maintained a leadership position on the log with 39 points ahead of Plateau United (38 points), Enugu Rangers (37 points), Remo Stars (36 points), Kano Pillars (36 points), and Enyimba FC (36 points).

At the other part of the table, Heartland FC are bottom with 18 points behind Akwa United (21 points), Gombe United (24 points), and Niger Tornadoes (24 points).
