Nine-time African champions, Nigeria’s women’s national football team, the Super Falcons, are set to host reigning African champions South Africa in the first leg of the final round of the Paris 2024 Olympic Qualifiers in Abuja.
The first leg of this crucial fourth-round clash is scheduled to take place at the MKO Abiola National Stadium in Abuja, kicking off at 4:00 pm on Friday, April 5, 2024.
The return leg will be held at a venue in South Africa on Tuesday, April 9, 2024, with the location yet to be determined.
Randy Waldrum’s side advanced to this stage after defeating Cameroon 1-0 on aggregate in the previous round (third round) of the qualifiers, with Esther Okoronkwo netting the decisive goal in Abuja.
Meanwhile, South Africa’s women’s national team, Banyana Banyana, secured their spot in the final round by beating Tanzania 4-0 on aggregate over two legs.
The winner of the Nigeria vs. South Africa tie will join ten other women’s football teams at the Paris 2024 Olympics.
For Nigeria, this presents an opportunity to return to the women’s football event of the Olympics for the first time since 2008 and make their third appearance overall, while South Africa aims to qualify for the tournament for the second time.
