Sports Minister tips Team Nigeria to surpass best Olympic feat

By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde

The Honourable Minister of Sports, Senator John Owan Enoh has stated that the target for this year’s Olympics for Team Nigeria is to surpass their best feat.

At Atlanta 1996, Team Nigeria recorded their best performance at the Olympics with two golds, a silver, and three bronze medals.

He made this statement during a media parley at the Media Centre of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja on Thursday.

“Just like it was with the African Games in Accra, Ghana, I will spell out from A-Z, the entitlements for our athletes,” He said.

“My aspiration is for the nation to surpass our previous record from our best Olympic Games performance in 1996.

“We have been working on this goal through our preparations, arrangements, and performance team working with athletes in Germany. I am getting reports on the progress every day.”

He added that the Ministry is working on engaging leadership style aimed at making athletes feel appreciated.

“We want to get our athletes to feel appreciated and wanted by our country.”

He highlighted the financial support allocated for the athletes including an entire 100 million Naira donation from the House of Representatives.

“The entire 100 million Naira donation from the Federal House of Reps will entirely go to the athletes.” He confirmed.
