Paris Olympics: Echegini blames Nigeria early exit on Waldrum’s defensive approach

By Wale Mustapha

Nigerian midfielder, Jennifer Echegini has failed Randy Waldrum’s defensive approach to the team’s early exit from the 2024 Paris Olympics.

The Super Falcons lost all their tyree group stage matches against Brazil, Spain and Japan to continue their miserable outings at the tournament history.

The team narrowly lost 1-0 to both Brazil and Spain, before losing her last group game 3-1 to Japan.

Echegini who scored a sublime goal against Japan said that Super Falcons must be very efficient in the offensive process.

“I think we need to trust ourselves more offensively, i think we played defensively in the past two games and maybe hope to get away with, but at the end we were hurt,” Echegini told TotoriNews.

“l think we should have displayed like we did today kind of more offensively thrusting us and defensively.

“We could have capitalized against Spain and Brazil, but it just was not meant to be.

“l mean we can talk about chances that we should have finished but that have passed.”
