By: Saheed Afolabi

Nasarawa United defender Victor Collins is determined to earn a regular spot in the Super Eagles squad, expressing his ambition to establish himself as a key player for Nigeria.

The technically gifted defender, who is the only home-based player included in the current squad for Nigeria’s upcoming 2025 AFCON qualifiers against Benin Republic and Rwanda, is relishing the opportunity to join the national team and train alongside established stars.

Collins, who has long admired players like Victor Osimhen and Alex Iwobi, expressed his excitement about sharing a camp with the Super Eagles’ European-based stars.

He referred to the experience as a privilege, having previously watched them on television in top leagues like the Premier League and the Turkish Süper Lig.

“It’s a privilege to be here. Just imagine watching players like Osimhen and Iwobi on TV in the Premier League or the Turkish League, and now, I’m here in camp and meeting them to be teammates,” Collins told Brila FM.

“It’s a very good development for me, and I need to learn from them.”

Collins is focused on improving his game and making the most of the opportunity to learn from some of Nigeria’s finest footballers. The 25-year-old acknowledged the need to raise his level even further, vowing to give even more effort in training and match situations.

“If I was giving 110% before, I need to give 150% now,” he said. “My mentality is always about winning; I don’t settle for less. By the special grace of God, I’m here to stay.”

With his strong desire to succeed and develop under the guidance of seasoned internationals, Collins is aiming to solidify his place in the Super Eagles and prove that home-based players have a valuable role to play on the international stage.

As Nigeria prepares for their crucial AFCON qualifiers, the defender is keen to showcase his potential and make a lasting impact.
