Alex Iwobi becomes Nigerian player with most goals for Fulham

By Monsurah Olatunji

Alex Iwobi has etched his name in Fulham’s history books, becoming the Nigerian player with the most goals for the club after scoring twice in their 2-1 victory over Brighton at Craven Cottage.

The Nigerian international’s brace helped propel Fulham into the top half of the Premier League standings.

Iwobi, who has been a standout performer this season, now has five goals and three assists, already surpassing his total of seven goal involvements from 34 league appearances in the 2023/24 season.

His two goals against Brighton brought his tally to 11, surpassing the previous record held by Sone Aluko, who scored nine goals during his time at Fulham in the 2016/17 season.

In a remarkable achievement, Iwobi’s first goal came in the fourth minute, marking the earliest goal Fulham has scored in the Premier League since August 2023, when Andreas Pereira netted after just 27 seconds against Arsenal.

This also made it the earliest goal at Craven Cottage since Bobby De Cordova-Reid’s strike in August 2022, which came 45 seconds into a match against Brentford.

Not only did Iwobi’s brace make history, but he also became the first Premier League player in 2024 to register 2+ goals, complete 3+ take-ons, win 5+ duels, and regain possession on 5+ occasions.

Ten of Iwobi’s goals have come in the Premier League, making him the 24th player in Fulham’s history to reach double figures in the competition.

This brace marked Iwobi’s second-ever two-goal performance in the Premier League, further solidifying his importance to the team.

On the creative front, Iwobi’s three assists have him level with left-back Antonee Robinson, with only Spanish winger Adama Traoré having created more goals (four) for Fulham this term.

As Iwobi continues to shine, he will have the chance to further extend his record in Fulham’s next match against his former club, Arsenal, at Craven Cottage on Sunday.
