NFF set to decide on Super Eagles’ foreign coach appointment

By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde

The Technical Committee of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) is set to decide on a foreign coach for Nigeria’s senior men’s national team, according to reports.

The decision is set to be made after the holidays ahead of the Super Eagles FIFA World Cup Qualifiers in 2025.

The head of the NFF Technical Department, Augustine Eguavoen, who is currently on medical leave in Belgium, according to www.blueprint.ng, has been in charge of the team temporarily and guided them to qualify for the next Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

He has demanded that a decision on the head coach of three-time time African champions be made in good time.

The Super Eagles will face Rwanda and Zimbabwe in March 2025 in continuation of the 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers.

The team has had a slow start to the qualifiers with three points from four games.

They sit in the fifth position on the six-team team group, four points behind leaders, Rwanda, South Africa, and the Benin Republic.

Lesotho is in fourth place in Group C with five points while Zimbabwe seats bottom with two points.

The Super Eagles need a win starting with their next game against Rwanda to stand any chance of automatic qualification for the next World Cup after missing out last time out in 2022.
