Mohammed Tijani makes impact as Plymouth stun Liverpool in FA Cup upset

By Dayo Awoniyi

Nigeria’s Muhammed Tijani played a pivotal role as English Championship side Plymouth Argyle pulled off a sensational 1-0 victory over Premier League leaders Liverpool in the fourth round of the FA Cup.

Tijani, a former Nigeria U-20 striker, was introduced in the 72nd minute and immediately made his presence felt, nearly scoring with a header that was blocked by a Liverpool defender.

The match’s only goal came in the 53rd minute when Plymouth’s Ryan Hardie converted a penalty after Liverpool’s Harvey Elliot was adjudged to have handled the ball inside the box.

Despite heavy pressure from Liverpool, Plymouth’s goalkeeper, Conor Hazard, was in fine form, making several key saves, including a crucial fingertip stop in the dying seconds to preserve the upset victory.

Tijani’s appearance was especially significant given his limited playing time this season due to injury issues.

The Nigerian striker, currently on loan at Plymouth from Czech giants Slavia Prague, demonstrated his potential in what was a memorable moment for both him and his club.
