Nigeria forward Victor Osimhen says his Turkish Super Lig side, Galatasaray, deserved a win after edging Rizespor 2-1 on Monday.

Osimhen scored a brace for Galatasaray in the keenly contested encounter against Babajide Akintola’a team.

Akintola, on his part, provided an assist for Ali Sowe during the encounter.

The Nigeria international, Osimhen confessed their opponent make things difficult for them, but insisted they deserved maximum points.

“I think it was a very important and very difficult match. We won, we think we won in a way we deserved,” he told the club’s official website.

“I want to congratulate the whole team. I also want to thank our fans. This victory and their support gave us a lot of morale. We are continuing our winning streak in this way.

Galatasaray captain Fernando Muslera celebrated with the forward’s mask after he scored the winning goal.

Osimhen praised the goalkeeper for his contribution towards the victory.

“I had given my mask to celebrate with the fans at that time. I came back and saw that he had already put it on. He is a great person beyond being a captain,” he added.

“He is a very important person for us. He had a very important role in this victory. I will rest my voice for a while and it will get better soon. My voice will come back to itself.”

Galatasaray faces Dutch side, AZ Alkmaar in the return leg of the UEFA Europa League Playoffs with a 4-1 deficit on February 20, 2025.
