Rumour Mills: John Obi Mikel intensifies Victor Osimhen’s campaign to Chelsea

By Monsurah Olatunji

Former Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel has ramped up his efforts to see Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen join the Blues, voicing his support through “The Obi One Podcast” shared widely on social media.

Currently on loan at Galatasaray from Napoli, Osimhen is reportedly eager to move away from Naples and has his sights set on the Premier League.

Mikel passionately advocates for Osimhen to make the move to Stamford Bridge, believing the prolific striker could transform Chelsea’s fortunes and lead their charge for major trophies.

During his loan spell at Galatasaray, Osimhen has impressed with 36 goals in 40 games across all competitions, a striking form that Mikel says cements the Nigerian’s status as Europe’s premier finisher.

“They have the best finisher right now in Europe. I don’t see any better,” Mikel declared, underscoring Osimhen’s unmatched goal-scoring prowess.

Adding a personal touch, Mikel noted Osimhen’s deep connection to Chelsea, pointing out that the striker grew up idolizing club legend Didier Drogba.

“He bleeds blue. He wants to play for us,” Mikel said, hinting at Osimhen’s strong desire to don the Chelsea jersey.

With Chelsea close to securing Champions League football next season, the club’s need for a proven, trophy-winning striker is urgent.

Osimhen’s credentials speak volumes: he was instrumental in Napoli’s first Serie A title in over 30 years during the 2022-23 campaign, proving he can perform on the biggest stages and deliver silverware.
