As anticipation builds for the 2025 President Federation Cup final, the Nasarawa State Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Hon. Yakubu Kwanta, made a surprise visit to the camp of the Nasarawa Amazons on Monday to boost team morale ahead of their departure to Lagos.
Hon. Kwanta’s visit was aimed at reaffirming the state government’s unwavering support for the team, who are preparing to face arch-rivals Rivers Angels in the final slated for June 28, 2025, at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan, Lagos.
“This team has made Nasarawa proud before, and I have no doubt they will do it again,” Hon. Kwanta declared. “His Excellency, Governor Abdullahi A. Sule, is solidly behind you and will be present in Lagos to support you all the way.”
The commissioner fondly recalled the Amazons’ 2019 Federation Cup triumph in Kaduna, during which he also served in the same capacity, and pledged continued government backing for the team.
Reacting to the visit, Head Coach Christopher Danjuma expressed his appreciation, assuring that the Amazons are focused and fully committed to bringing the trophy back to Nasarawa.
Team captain Josephine Mathias, speaking on behalf of the players, thanked the commissioner and the ministry for their support, promising to fight hard to deliver the trophy as a token of appreciation to the governor and the people of the state.
The commissioner was accompanied by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development and other top officials, further underlining the state’s commitment to the team’s success.
With preparations in full swing and spirits high, Nasarawa Amazons will be aiming to write another chapter in their illustrious history this weekend when they take on Rivers Angels in what promises to be a pulsating final.
