NFF’s Mohammed Sanusi urges continued development for Nigerian coaches

By Oluwadamilola Olaleye

General Secretary of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Mohammed Sanusi, has called on Nigerian coaches to remain committed to continuous learning and professional development following the completion of the Coaching Educators’ Course in Abuja.

Speaking at the closing ceremony of the course held at the NFF/FIFA Technical Centre auditorium within the MKO Abiola National Stadium on Thursday, Sanusi stressed the importance of mastering coaching methodologies and staying updated with global trends.

“In coaching education, acquiring knowledge, understanding how to deliver it, and communicating effectively are vital,” Sanusi said. “To do this successfully, one must have a deep understanding of the subject matter.”

He acknowledged the progress made during the training but pointed out areas that still require improvement, based on feedback from CAF officials and technical reports.

“I have received plenary reports and had discussions with the CAF expert, who acknowledged the strides taken, but also highlighted key areas that need further attention,” he added.

Sanusi also advised the coaches to embrace collaboration and seek clarification whenever needed, while reminding participants of the importance of keeping pace with the evolving laws of the game to maintain coaching relevance and excellence.

“There are continual advancements in our field. If you have any doubts, consult your colleagues or reach out to your educators for guidance,” he urged.

The event marked the successful conclusion of the intensive training programme, which was attended by 15 participating coaches, their instructors, and CAF expert Mr. Michael Amenga.
