WAFU B Qualifiers: Police Ladies coach Yusif Basigi draws positives despite defeat to Bayelsa Queens

By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde

Police Ladies head coach Yusif Basigi says his team has taken valuable lessons from their opening loss to Bayelsa Queens in the CAF Women’s Champions League WAFU B Qualifiers.

Goals from Shakirat Moshood and Emem Essien propelled the Prosperity Girls to their win in the opener.

Reflecting on the match, the Ghanaian tactician likened the encounter to a final, given the Nigeria–Ghana rivalry:

“At least, this has been more or less like a final game because a match between Nigeria and Ghana is always a final irrespective of where we are starting from.”

Despite the defeat, Basigi stressed that the performance in the latter stages of the match showed promise and will serve as a foundation for improvement:

“For us, we will go to the drawing board and then discuss it. From there we will continue to make amends.

We are going to continue from where we ended and move on because in the latter part of the game, I think we raised up the standard. In our subsequent matches, that is where we are going to start from.”

Police Ladies will now aim to bounce back as the tournament progresses, with Basigi confident that the lessons learned against Bayelsa Queens will sharpen their performance in the upcoming fixtures.
