NPFL: Abia Warriors bounce back from Confederation Cup exit with Remo Stars win

By Wale Mustapha

Abia Warriors responded to their recent CAF Confederation Cup disappointment with an impressive 2-0 victory over reigning Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) champions, Remo Stars, in a rescheduled Matchday Six fixture on Thursday.

The win, secured at the Umuahia Township Stadium, marked a morale-boosting return to domestic action for the Warriors following their 2-1 aggregate loss to Djoliba of Mali in the continental competition.

Striker Emeka Obioma opened the scoring in the first half, before Sunday Megwo sealed the result with a second-half goal, handing Remo Stars their second defeat of the new NPFL season.

Veteran goalkeeper Okiemute Odah was also instrumental in the win, pulling off a crucial point-blank save in the second half to preserve the clean sheet.

The result lifts Abia Warriors’ confidence as they prepare for their next outing — a Matchday Seven clash away to Kwara United in Ilorin on Sunday.

The ‘Umu Chineke’ side will be aiming to build on this momentum and climb further up the league table.
