NFF Marks International Anti-Corruption Day with Awareness Walk in Abuja

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) on Tuesday joined the global commemoration of the 2025 International Anti-Corruption Day by staging an enlightenment walk around the premises of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja.

The symbolic exercise drew participation from members of NFF Management and Staff, and featured the presence of the NFF Desk Officer for the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), Mallam Abdulrahman Maigari. He was joined on the walk by several top NFF officials, including Dr. Ademola Olajire (Director of Media & Communications), Ms. Ruth David (Director of Competitions), Mr. Barnabas Joro (Deputy Director, Protocol), Dr. Ayo Abdulrahaman (Deputy Director, Competitions) and Hajia Amina Daura (Head of Women’s Football), alongside other senior staff.

Speaking during the event, the Head of the NFF’s Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit (ACTU), Barr. Queen Otarakpo, underscored the significance of the International Anti-Corruption Day, noting that corruption poses a direct threat to national development and institutional credibility.

“The International Anti-Corruption Day reminds us that corruption is not just a legal violation; it is a barrier to development, a threat to institutional integrity, and an enemy of public trust,” she said.

Otarakpo reaffirmed the commitment of the ACTU to fostering a work culture built on integrity, transparency, and accountability, stressing that the fight against corruption requires the active participation of everyone within the system.

“Corruption survives where silence prevails. But today, we choose to raise our voices. We choose honesty over shortcuts, service over self-interest, and responsibility over negligence,” she added.

Representing the ICPC, Maigari highlighted the commission’s three core mandates — enlightenment, prevention, and prosecution. He explained that enlightenment and prevention remain key focus areas for the ICPC and commended the NFF for its proactive stance in advancing the anti-corruption campaign.

NFF General Secretary, Dr. Mohammed Sanusi (MON), also praised the ACTU for organizing the awareness walk and for its collaborative efforts with the ICPC.

“There are some little things we do that we are not aware could be anti-corruption, but through enlightenment and crusades such as this, people and institutions are better-guided,” he noted.

Sanusi described the ACTU as a highly committed team, applauding its diligence, focus, and dedication to strengthening transparency within the federation.

The event reinforced the NFF’s commitment to ethical conduct and accountability as it continues to play its part in the national and global fight against corruption.
