Eric Chelle Reveals Osimhen Played Entire AFCON 2025 With Injury

Nigeria head coach Eric Sékou Chelle has revealed that star striker Victor Osimhen battled through injury throughout the entire 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, highlighting the forward’s extraordinary commitment to Nigeria.

Chelle made the disclosure during an appearance on the RMC After Afrique podcast, where he spoke glowingly about Osimhen’s resilience, mentality, and sacrifice for the national team.

According to the coach, the Galatasaray forward arrived at the tournament with a mild hamstring injury but was determined to feature for the Super Eagles despite the physical challenge. Chelle explained that Osimhen fully understood the risks involved but chose to push himself in order to contribute to Nigeria’s AFCON campaign.

The Malian-born tactician described the decision as a rare act of courage, stressing that very few players at the top level would be willing to compete under such conditions. He noted that Osimhen’s mindset, hunger, and determination are qualities that clearly separate him from many elite professionals.

Beyond his performances on matchdays, Chelle also highlighted Osimhen’s relentless work ethic in training. He portrayed the striker as obsessively driven, especially during attacking drills, where he constantly pushes himself to meet the highest standards and is never satisfied with average performances.

Labeling him “a complete machine,” Chelle added that Osimhen is usually the first player on the training pitch and the last to leave, fueled by an all-consuming desire to win trophies and improve daily—qualities that continue to make him indispensable for both club and country.
