Abdullahi Biffo Hails Historic Super 4 as a Thrilling Test Ahead of NPFL

Veteran coach Abdullahi Biffo has lauded the Nigeria National League (NNL) management for raising the standard with a historic Super 4 championship in Ikenne, describing the tournament as competitive, electrifying, and an ideal proving ground for teams preparing for the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).

The former national team assistant coach was present at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne, Ogun State, on matchday 2 to witness Inter Lagos narrowly defeat Rancher Bees 1-0. He praised the elevated organization of the event, noting that it has transformed perceptions of the NNL’s end-of-season playoffs.

“This Super 4 is both competitive and electrifying. The intensity has made teams more cautious and left little room for underperformance,” Biffo said after the game. “I expected more from the teams, but I understand their eagerness to be crowned champions this 2025/2026 season.”

Inter Lagos’ victory secured their spot in the final against Sporting Lagos, who had already booked their place with six points from two matches and a commanding 4-0 goal difference following a win over Doma FC.

Drawing on his extensive experience in Nigeria’s domestic leagues, Biffo urged the clubs to use the Super 4 as a platform to identify areas for improvement ahead of the NPFL campaign.

“This tournament has given teams a chance to showcase themselves. By now, they should know where to strengthen and recruit quality players who can help them compete at the top level,” he said.

He also advised coaches to prepare rigorously, stressing that the NPFL demands higher standards. “This is no longer the familiar NNL. The NPFL is for teams ready to face its challenges head-on.”

The Super 4 continues at Remo Stars Stadium, Ikenne, with Sporting Lagos and Inter Lagos set to clash in the final for the 2025/2026 NNL title and promotion to the NPFL.
