The Nigeria national football team have been placed in Pot 1 for the upcoming 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers following the release of the official seeding by the Confédération Africaine de Football.
The seeding announcement, made on Monday evening, confirms Nigeria’s status among Africa’s top-ranked football nations ahead of the qualifying draw.
Also included in Pot 1 are the Morocco national football team, Senegal national football team, Democratic Republic of the Congo national football team, Egypt national football team, Tunisia national football team, South Africa national football team, Cameroon national football team, Mali national football team, Algeria national football team, Ivory Coast national football team and Burkina Faso national football team.
Being placed in Pot 1 means the Super Eagles will avoid facing any of those continental heavyweights during the group stage of the qualifiers, potentially improving their path toward qualification.
The remaining participating nations have been distributed across three additional pots, which will determine the final group pairings during the draw ceremony.
The qualifying draw is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, May 19, when all teams will discover their opponents in the race to secure a place at the 2027 tournament.
Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda have already been confirmed as joint hosts of the competition.
