Brentford Retain Super Eagles Defender Benjamin Fredrick for 2026/27 Season

Premier League club Brentford FC have confirmed their retained and released list for the 2026-27 season, with decisions made on the futures of three players of Nigerian descent.
At B Team level, the Bees have revealed that discussions are ongoing with former Republic of Ireland youth international Val Adedokun over a new contract.
The 23-year-old left-back is still awaiting his senior debut for Brentford despite being named in seven first-team matchday squads, including five Premier League fixtures. In recent seasons, Adedokun gained valuable experience through loan spells with Hungarian club Diósgyőri VTK and English side Cheltenham Town.
However, his development was interrupted by a long-term injury that limited his involvement during the 2025-26 campaign.
Meanwhile, Super Eagles defender Benjamin Fredrick has been retained by Brentford and remains firmly in the club’s plans.
The centre-back also endured an injury-hit season, with his last competitive appearance coming in November 2025 during Nigeria’s FIFA World Cup African qualifying playoff final against the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
Fredrick spent the 2025-26 season on loan at Belgian Pro League outfit FCV Dender EH, where he made 15 appearances across all competitions, including 14 league matches and one outing in the Belgian Cup.
The former Flying Eagles star remains under contract at Brentford until June 2028, with the club holding an option to extend his stay for an additional season through 2029.
Elsewhere, Brentford have confirmed the departure of defender Gregory Asemokhai, whose contract will expire at the end of the month, bringing his time at the club to a close.
For Fredrick, the decision represents a significant vote of confidence from Brentford as he continues his recovery and looks to establish himself within the club’s long-term plans.
