Leicester City Eye Arthur Okonkwo in Summer Transfer Move

Former Premier League champions Leicester City are considering a move for Nigeria goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo as they seek to strengthen their squad ahead of the new campaign.

According to reports from Alan Nixon via Football League World, the Foxes are monitoring the Wrexham goalkeeper and could make an approach if he falls further down the pecking order at the Welsh club.

Okonkwo was a key figure for Wrexham last season, making 38 Championship appearances and recording nine clean sheets as the club narrowly missed out on a playoff spot.

Despite his impressive performances, the 24-year-old’s status as first-choice goalkeeper came into question after Danny Ward was preferred for the opening four matches of the season. Okonkwo also found himself on the bench for the club’s final four fixtures, fuelling speculation about his future.

Leicester are now exploring options to bring the former Arsenal academy goalkeeper to the King Power Stadium, either through a permanent transfer or a season-long loan deal.

With uncertainty surrounding Okonkwo’s future, Wrexham have already begun identifying potential replacements. Sunderland goalkeeper Anthony Patterson, who spent the latter part of last season on loan at Millwall, has emerged as a leading candidate to fill the void should Okonkwo depart.

Okonkwo first joined Wrexham on loan from Arsenal in September 2023 before completing a permanent switch the following season after his contract with the Gunners expired.

On the international stage, the Nigerian goalkeeper recently enhanced his reputation during the Unity Cup. He kept clean sheets on his senior debut against Zimbabwe and in the tournament final against Jamaica, underlining his growing importance to the Super Eagles setup.
