Nigeria’s senior men’s national team are set to make history when they take on Kosovo in an international friendly, marking the first-ever meeting between the two national teams.
The proposed fixture was announced by Kosovo’s Deputy Prime Minister, Glauk Konjufca, during a courtesy visit to the Director General of Nigeria’s National Sports Commission (NSC), Bukola Olopade, on Friday.
According to a statement issued by the NSC, Konjufca said Kosovo is eager to strengthen sporting relations with Nigeria, with football and martial arts identified as key areas of collaboration.
The friendly encounter will be a landmark occasion for both countries, as the Super Eagles prepare to face the European nation for the first time in their history.
Kosovo will head into the match looking to build on recent positive performances despite falling short in their bid to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Franco Foda’s side narrowly missed out after suffering a 1-0 defeat to Turkey in the European qualifying playoffs.
However, the Kosovans will take confidence from their latest outing, having recorded an impressive 3-0 victory over Andorra in an international friendly last month.
The proposed clash is expected to provide both teams with valuable preparation while also strengthening sporting ties between Nigeria and Kosovo.
