Jesurun Uchegbulam: Nigerian-Italian winger rejoins Matlock on free transfer from The New Saints

Nigerian-Italian winger Jesurun Uchegbulam has rejoined Matlock from Welsh champions The New Saints on a free transfer. The 25-year-old left-sided attacker returns to the Derbyshire club after leaving the Cymru Premier side, completing a permanent move back to England.

Uchegbulam, who was born in Lagos and is right-footed despite operating primarily from the left flank, first played for Matlock between 2021 and 2022 before earning a switch to the professional ranks. His latest move was confirmed on 14 July 2026, with Matlock opting to bring him back following a short spell in Wales.

The winger had only joined The New Saints earlier this month, also on a free transfer from Chelmsford, but now heads back to familiar surroundings. His brief stay in Wales followed a busy period in his career, including a loan stint at Buxton from Chelmsford in the 2025-26 campaign.

Uchegbulam’s journey has taken in several clubs across the English pyramid. After standing out at Matlock in his first spell, he moved to Chesterfield in 2022, then to Rochdale the following summer. A switch to Oldham Athletic came in 2024, followed by a loan move to Eastleigh and a later return to Oldham. Further moves to Eastbourne and Chelmsford underlined a career marked by frequent changes of club.

The 1.78m winger now returns to Matlock looking to re-establish himself at the club where he first made his name, with the deal completed as a free transfer from The New Saints.
