Paul Mbong: Malta-Nigeria winger returns to Floriana from Cukaricki

Malta-Nigeria winger Paul Mbong has rejoined Floriana from Serbian side Cukaricki, sealing a move back to the Maltese Premier League club after his previous spell on loan. The 24-year-old right-sided attacker, born in Marsaskala, has signed a deal running until 30 June 2027.

Mbong, who stands at 1.75m and prefers to play off the right flank, had spent the second half of the 2025-26 season at Floriana on loan from Cukaricki before returning to Serbia at the end of that agreement. He now heads back to the Greens on a fresh move following his stint in the Serbian Super Liga.

The winger left Birkirkara for Cukaricki in 2025 after completing a free transfer, having already broken into senior football with the Maltese club following his promotion from their Under-19 side in 2020. During his time with Birkirkara, he collected a Maltese Cup winners’ medal in the 2022-23 season.

Across his domestic and cup career, Mbong has passed 100 Maltese Premier League appearances and has featured regularly in the Maltese FA Trophy, while also gaining experience in European competition through UEFA Europa Conference League qualifying ties. He has also had minutes in the Serbian top flight and domestic cup with Cukaricki.

Mbong’s latest switch confirms his return to Floriana, where he is under contract through the 2026-27 campaign.
