Ajax secure loan deal for Nigeria striker Tolu Arokodare from Wolves

Nigeria forward Tolu Arokodare has joined Ajax on a season-long loan from Wolves, giving the Dutch club a powerful new option at centre-forward for the 2026-27 Eredivisie campaign.

The 25-year-old moves to Amsterdam after a challenging year in England, where he was part of a Wolves side relegated from the Premier League in 2025-26. His loan to Ajax runs until 30 June 2027, after which he is scheduled to return to the Championship club.

Arokodare, who stands at 1.97m and is right-footed, arrives with a strong scoring record in continental European leagues. He previously impressed at Genk, where his form in Belgium’s Jupiler Pro League helped earn him a €26m move to Wolves in September 2025. Before that, he had spells in France with Amiens and in Latvia with Valmiera, as well as a stint in the Bundesliga with Koln.

His most prolific periods came in Belgium and Latvia, registering 27 league goals in 68 Jupiler Pro League appearances and 22 in 32 Virsliga matches, while he also claimed two top scorer awards – one in the Jupiler Pro League with 21 goals in 2024-25 and another in the Coupe de France with five goals in 2021-22.

Arokodare’s career statistics also include experience in European competition, with outings in the Europa Conference League and Champions League qualifying rounds. His current market value is listed at €20m, underlining the scale of Ajax’s acquisition on a temporary basis.

The move sees Arokodare officially become an Ajax player until the end of the 2026-27 season on a loan transfer from Wolves.
