Kelechi Iheanacho scores again as Bursaspor run ends in defeat

Kelechi Iheanacho scored for the 10th consecutive game for club and country, but his latest goal could not prevent Bursaspor suffering a 2-1 home defeat by Mardin 1969 Spor in the Turkish First League on Sunday evening.

Bursaspor fell behind before Iheanacho brought them level with an outstanding effort from outside the penalty area. The Nigeria international’s strike restored parity and continued his remarkable run in front of goal.

It was Iheanacho’s ninth successive match on the scoresheet for Bursaspor in the Turkish First League. During that sequence, he has recorded 14 goal contributions, consisting of 12 goals and two assists.

Bursaspor were unable to hold on for a point, with Mardin 1969 Spor scoring the decisive goal in the fourth minute of stoppage time. Zdravko Dimitrov found the net to complete a dramatic 2-1 victory for the visitors.

Iheanacho’s scoring run also includes his contribution for the Nigeria national team. The 2013 Fifa U17 World Cup Golden Ball winner scored in the Super Eagles’ recent 3-3 draw with Russia in Nizhny Novgorod.

He opened the scoring in the 10th minute of that entertaining encounter, extending his run to 10 consecutive games in which he has found the net for either Bursaspor or Nigeria.

The forward has scored 17 goals during the 2026–27 campaign, underlining his importance to Bursaspor’s attacking output. The club have scored 17 goals in total this season, meaning Iheanacho has contributed to 82.4 per cent of them.

Despite his continued form, Bursaspor could not turn his equaliser into a result against Mardin 1969 Spor, leaving their hopes of salvaging a point undone by Dimitrov’s late strike.
