Nigeria’s Mathias Oyewusi scores for Raja Casablanca in 2-2 draw with El-Kanemi Warriors

Nigerian-born forward Mathias Oyewusi was on target for Moroccan giants Raja Casablanca as they played out a 2-2 draw against Nigeria’s El-Kanemi Warriors in the first leg of their 2026/27 CAF Confederation Cup second-round encounter in Ikenne.
Oyewusi put Raja Casablanca ahead in the second half after El-Kanemi Warriors had taken an early lead and Shararah equalised for the Moroccan visitors.
The forward’s goal gave Raja the advantage and raised the prospect of a valuable away victory before the Nigerian side fought back to secure a late equaliser through Nnamdi Mejuobi in the 83rd minute.
Born in Jos, Plateau State, Oyewusi’s goal added a Nigerian connection to the contest, with the striker representing the Moroccan club against a team from his country of birth.
Oyewusi joined Raja Casablanca in January 2026 following a spell with Ukrainian side Kolos Kovalivka, adding Moroccan football to his professional career.
The centre-forward first attracted significant attention during his time with Lithuanian club Zalgiris Vilnius, where he finished as the league’s leading scorer in 2023 with 19 goals.
He also featured for French side Valenciennes before moving to Ukraine and subsequently joining Raja Casablanca.
Oyewusi will now look to build on his contribution as Raja prepare for the return leg in Morocco, where both teams will battle for a place in the next round of the CAF Confederation Cup.
